The Transfer Window have was a huge success for Clubs like Chelsea, Aston Villa and Bayern Munich but a complete disaster the likes of Manchester City and their city rival Manchester United.
Barcelona too did not have the best of windows as they couldn’t land their prime targets. They missed out on the likes of Eric Garcia from Manchester City and Memphis Depay from Olympic Lyon.
Here are a few pictures that courtesy of Bleacher reports that sums up what the transfer window was like for top teams around Europe.
1. Manchester United paid much for 32 year old Cavani
Manchester United had one the most terrible transfer window of almost all teams in Europe. The Club failed to land prime target Jason Sancho following a series of bid that was rejected by Borussia Dortmund.
They had to make do with the signing a young Atalanta winger, Amad Traore who will join them in January. They were also able to tie up deals for Edinson Cavani for free, even though, we were informed that the agent fee was as much as €10million and Alex Telles for €22million. United were in the market for defenders but unfortunately could not land any in what will stand as a failed transfer window for the Red Devils.
2. Arsenal rendered Gunnersauraus redundant to sign Partey
Atletico made their stand earlier in the transfer window known that Thomas Partey will not be sold for nothing less than his €50million which happens to be the player’s release clause.
The Gunners have had to cut down their wage book by rendering popular mascot l, Gunnersauraus redundant to be able to raise funds for the signing of Thomas Partey which they did yesterday.
The next picture shows the entire squad and the Manager, Mikel Arteta welcoming the player to Arsenal while the mascot walks away. Elsewhere in the same picks Ancelotti and his “son” James Rodriguez having a good time following a successful 1st month of action.
3. Atletico Madrid Coach frees Suarez from Barcelona Torment while Harry Kane welcomes Matty Doherty
Suarez and Messi were all set for the exit from Barcelona following the appointment of Ronald Koeman as head coach. Messi clearly wanted to leave the Club as there was a clause in his contract that grants him the chance to leave the Club before the last year of his contract but Barcelona exclusively insisted on keeping the Argentine captive hence preventing him from joining Manchester City.
Elsewhere, Matty Doherty is having a fine season with Tottenham Hotspur following his move from Wolverhampton Wanderers to the North London side. He has teamed up with the likes of Harry Kane and will be looking forward to winning some silverwares.
4. Everyone must be Jealous of Chelsea
After Roman Abramovich approved a €240million outlay on transfers, a lit of Club out there were clearly angry and complained about the expensive buys the Blues made. Top of the list of Manager’s that made their complaints public is Jurgen Klopp who wants to retain the Premier League title.
Klopp, however, was able to convince the Liverpool board to cough up over €60million for the signing of Thiago Alcantara and Diego Jota from Barcelona and Wolves respectively.
5. If you can’t sign Koulibaly why not sign Ake – Pep Guardiola
Manchester City
Following the series of Defensive lapses suffered by Manchester City last season as key Defender Aymeric Laporte was injured on several occasions last season and John Stones out of form, there was a need for Guardiola to sign some defenders. An approach to sign Koulibaly from Napoli didn’t work so Manchester City had to spend over €100million for Ruben Dias and Nathan Ake.
Manchester United
As for Manchester United, their consistent pursuit of Jadon Sancho, will turn out to be a failed Entreprise as their bid proved insufficient to prise the player away from the Signa Iduna park.
The lack of signings in key areas will later be seen a fortnight before the close of the window as United were trashed 6-1 at home by Tottenham Hotspur.
