Chelsea have completed the signing of Xavier Mbuyamba who have been tagged the new Virgil Van Dijk by talkchelsea.net.
The Dutch youngster was born on the 31st of December, 2001 in Maastricht, Netherlands to a Congolese father and a Dutch mother. He started his career at MVV Maastricht in the second tier before signing for Barcelona in August 2019.
He stands at staggering height of 1.95m and hence, a very good header of the ball when it comes to arial duels just like the Liverpool FC Dutchman, Virgil Van Dijk.
Xavier who primarily plays as a central defender is only 18 years old and only just signed a 3 years contract with the Blues.
The Dutch youngster was released by Catalan side, FC Barcelona and Chelsea were willing to take him in, knowing he has a great potential just like other Netherland defenders that were on their books, notably Melchiot and Patrick Van Anholt.
He will be Frank Lampard’s third major signing after the arrival of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner. The lad is expected join the Blues younger set up but his performances will determine if he will be called up to the senior side.
Xavier made 11 appearances for MVV Maastricht before joining Barcelona. He however, failed to feature for the Camp Nou outfit or their B team in his one year stay.
He has also featured for the Netherlands National Team albeit in the Junior category.
The Blues have being offered Thiago Silva of PSG according to the Telegraph and if Chelsea signs him on a 2 year deal then we should expect Mbuyamba not to feature for the Blues this season. He will probably feature for the U23 side or even go out on loan.
Question: Do you think Xavier Mbuyamba is the future and long term solution to Chelsea’s Centre back issue?
