Cooper and Williams Earn PFWA All-Rookie Honors
The Green Bay Packers have a rich history of developing young talent, and this season was no exception. Linebacker Edgerrin Cooper and safety Evan Williams, both rookies, have been named to the Pro Football Writers of America (PFWA) All-Rookie Team.
The PFWA All-Rookie Team is an annual honor that recognizes the top rookies in the NFL. The team is selected by a vote of the PFWA membership, which consists of writers and broadcasters from across the country.
Cooper, a linebacker from the University of Texas at San Antonio, was a sixth-round draft pick by the Packers in the 2023 NFL Draft. Despite being a late-round pick, Cooper quickly made a name for himself in training camp and preseason, earning a spot on the Packers’ 53-man active roster.
During the regular season, Cooper played in all 17 games, starting several contests and recording 75 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and an interception. His impressive play earned him recognition as one of the top rookie linebackers in the NFL.
“Eg is a talented young player who has a bright future ahead of him,” said Packers head coach Matt LaFleur. “He’s got a great work ethic and is always looking for ways to improve. We’re excited to see him continue to grow and develop as a player.”
Williams, a safety from the University of Georgia, was a fourth-round draft pick by the Packers in the 2023 NFL Draft. Like Cooper, Williams quickly made a name for himself in training camp and preseason, earning a spot on the Packers’ 53-man active roster.
During the regular season, Williams played in all 17 games, starting several contests and recording 60 tackles, 2 interceptions, and a fumble recovery. His impressive play earned him recognition as one of the top rookie safeties in the NFL.
“Evan is a talented young player who has a great instinct for the ball,” said LaFleur. “He’s got a lot of confidence and is always looking for ways to make plays. We’re excited to see him continue to grow and develop as a player.”
The recognition of Cooper and Williams as PFWA All-Rookie Team members is a testament to the Packers’ ability to develop young talent. Both players have bright futures ahead of them, and Packers fans are excited to see them continue to grow and develop as players.
“It’s a great honor for Edgerrin and Evan to be recognized as PFWA All-Rookie Team members,” said LaFleur. “It’s a testament to their hard work and dedication, and we’re excited to see them continue to make contributions to our team.”
