New York Jets running back Breece Hall recently became the subject of trade rumors after first-year head coach Aaron Glenn hinted during the NFL owners meetings that he could split touches between Hall, Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis during the 2025 season.
On Tuesday, Jets insider Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic touched upon whether the club would actually shop Hall before he plays meaningful football in the same offense as new starting quarterback Justin Fields.
“Some took Glenn’s comments as a sign the Jets might be willing to trade Hall,” Rosenblatt wrote. “But if that were true, wouldn’t it have made more sense for Glenn to hype him up rather than deflect to talking about the Jets’ other running backs? More likely: Glenn is a new coach trying to establish a new culture and took it as an opportunity to challenge Hall as a form of motivation.”
Hall is in the final year of his rookie contract and hasn’t become the consistent game-changing playmaker many thought he’d be before he went down with a torn ACL during his first pro season in 2022. It’s unclear what Hall would be worth to a different team, but his value likely would only decrease if the Jets spend a noteworthy draft asset on a ball carrier later this month.
“The closest comparison for Hall might be when the Lions traded D’Andre Swift to the Eagles in 2023,” Rosenblatt added. “Swift, like Hall, was in the final year of his contract. Detroit…traded Swift and a seventh-round pick to the Eagles for a fourth- and seventh-round pick.”
Multiple Jets reporters have indicated that Glenn and Co. are serious about learning if Fields can become a long-term first-choice QB1 for the franchise. Thus, logic suggests the Jets will want to give Fields additional help via the draft and punt a decision about Hall’s future down the road.
Additionally, analysts such as ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. now seem convinced the Las Vegas Raiders (pick No. 6) won’t let Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty, the advertised top running back in this year’s draft class, fall to the Jets at the seventh overall selection. In his updated mock draft on Tuesday, Kiper predicted that the Jets would make Fields and Hall happy by grabbing Missouri offensive tackle Armand Membou at choice No. 7.
