Browns GM: Jalen Milroe Might Be Faster Than Lamar Jackson
Quarterback Jalen Milroe recently called his ability to play faster than his opponents — both in the passing and running game — his “superpower.” Now, he’s receiving high praise from a potential NFL suitor.
At a pre-draft press conference, Cleveland Browns General Manager Andrew Berry described Milroe as having “rare physical talent,” even suggesting he may be the fastest quarterback in the league once drafted.
“He might be the only quarterback who’s actually faster than Lamar Jackson,” Berry said, jokingly adding, “Just don’t tell Lamar I said that.” He emphasized Milroe’s strength, speed, and powerful arm, noting that any team would be wise to build a system that leverages those unique traits.
Cleveland may also have an inside track in evaluating Milroe. Their offensive coordinator, Tommy Rees, was Milroe’s play-caller at Alabama in 2023 — Milroe’s first season as a starter. Berry acknowledged that this connection gives the team a clearer understanding of the quarterback’s abilities and areas for improvement.
During his two seasons as a starter, Milroe posted solid numbers. In 2023, he completed 65.8% of his passes for 2,834 yards, throwing 23 touchdowns with six interceptions. He also ran for 531 yards and 12 touchdowns. The following season, he completed 64.3% of his passes for 2,844 yards, with 16 touchdowns and 11 interceptions, and significantly improved his rushing output with 726 yards and 20 touchdowns.
