The 2025 NFL Draft is just two days away and the closer we get, the clearer things will become, but the waters have to get muddier first.
And that’s something we’re beginning to see at the start of this week. With the deadline approaching to Thursday’s opening round, teams are getting antsy and considering all of the potential possibilities ahead.
Which includes making any last minute trades, and it’s looking like we’ll see a handful of moves made during the first-round with teams looking to move up or down the board during the first 32 selections.
The Chicago Bears are caught right in the middle of both sides sitting at 10th overall. The Bears could look to move further up into the Top-10 to land a blue-chip prospect, or look to trade down and accumulate more picks if their desired players are off the board. Either way, the team is sitting in an ideal spot to watch things play out before making a move.
“I feel really confident where we’re at. I think this one’s going to be a little wild,” Poles said about the 2025 Draft. “But we’re going to be prepared for all the different scenerios that pop up.”
While no trades have truly presented themselves yet, the calls are being made around the league and the Bears are no exception.
“I think there’s going to be a lot more movement than there has been in the past,” Poles added. “There’s a lot of phone calls going on right now, so it’s hard to tell today. But, I think as we get closer it’ll start to show itself.”
As far as moving up goes, there’s a lot that goes into the decision. The Bears have the draft capital to facilitate such a trade, have teams who could be interested in moving down, and clearly have players in mind that may or may not be available at 10.
“We’re weighing those right now,” assistant general manager Ian Cunningham explained. “We’ll see come draft night.”
On the flip side, trading down seems to be a much more favorable approach in this year’s class, but it requires finding the right trade partner looking to move up to 10. The reason being is because of how close so many prospects are graded amongst each other. The more picks you can have in the Top-50 the better is the common mindset.
The Bears are clearly weighing all of the options, including just staying put at 10 and making their selection there. Either way, a lot of top minds in various draft rooms are feeling like something crazy will unfold. We’ll see which team, or teams, move first.
