In a powerful tribute to perseverance, leadership, and grit, Netflix has officially announced the release of its latest original documentary, “THE UNDERDOG,” centered on Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts. The feature-length documentary will premiere globally on May 25, 2025, and is already being hailed as a must-watch for sports fans and dreamers alike.

From Benched to Beloved
“THE UNDERDOG” dives deep into Hurts’ remarkable journey—from being benched in the national championship game at Alabama, to transferring to Oklahoma and resurrecting his career, to being doubted as an NFL prospect and ultimately rising as the face of the Eagles franchise.
Through candid interviews with Hurts, family members, teammates, coaches like Nick Saban and Lincoln Riley, and NFL peers, the film paints an intimate portrait of a young man who never flinched in the face of adversity.
“They told me I wasn’t good enough to lead a team at the next level,” Hurts says in the trailer. “But I’ve never needed outside validation. I’ve always believed in the work.
Behind the Scenes and Untold Stories
The documentary features never-before-seen footage from Hurts’ high school years in Houston, his emotional transfer from Alabama, draft-day reactions, locker room speeches, and pivotal game moments during his rise with the Eagles.
Netflix crews were embedded with Hurts during the 2023 and 2024 NFL seasons, capturing his leadership both on and off the field—whether rallying teammates, giving back to the Philadelphia community, or navigating the weight of expectations.
