Eddie George Returns to Ohio State Football as Special Coaching Advisor
Excitement swept across Buckeye Nation today as Ohio State University announced that former Heisman Trophy winner and football legend Eddie George is returning to the program in a new capacity. George, one of the most iconic figures in Ohio State football history, will serve as a special coaching advisor, marking a homecoming more than two decades in the making.
The announcement was made Friday morning by head coach Ryan Day and athletic director Gene Smith. George’s role will focus on player development, leadership mentoring, and fostering a strong connection between the current team and the program’s rich legacy.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Eddie back to Columbus in an official role,” Day said. “He brings not only unmatched experience on the field but also tremendous wisdom off it. Our players will benefit greatly from his insight and leadership.”
George, who won the Heisman Trophy in 1995, rushed for 3,768 yards during his time at Ohio State and later went on to have a successful NFL career with the Tennessee Titans. More recently, he has served as the head coach at Tennessee State University, where he’s been praised for his focus on holistic player development.
In a statement, George expressed his gratitude and enthusiasm about returning to the Buckeyes.
“This university means everything to me. To have the opportunity to mentor and guide young men at a place that shaped my own life is an incredible honor,” George said. “I’m looking forward to being back on the sidelines, giving back to the program, and helping to build champions—on and off the field.”
