When Howie Roseman hits on an early-round draft pick — and there have been many over the past five-plus years — he tends to waste little time rewarding that young player with an early contract extension.
Ascending star Cam Jurgens was the latest example this offseason, as Roseman and the Philadelphia Eagles signed their 25-year-old starting center to a four-year extension worth $68 million in April.
The move keeps the core of Philly’s championship offensive line — Jurgens, LT Jordan Mailata, LG Landon Dickerson and RT Lane Johnson — locked up together through the next 2-3 years.
The Jurgens extension recently came in at No. 22 on Bleacher Report’s top 25 moves of the 2025 offseason. “The Eagles are adopting an interesting strategy as they attempt to defend their Super Bowl title—the team ranks near the top of the league in spending on offense and near the bottom of the NFL in spending on defense,” B/R’s Gary Davenport wrote. “However, Philadelphia didn’t have much choice but to extend their Pro Bowl center after the best season of his career. He was 10th among interior linemen in pass block win rate in 2024.”
Jurgens was a second-round pick of the Eagles in the 2022 draft. He played multiple positions, including right guard in 2023, as he was groomed behind future Hall of Famer Jason Kelce. He’s now on track to become Philly’s next franchise center.
One of the big stories of the Eagles’ 2024 Super Bowl run was Jurgens’ nagging back injury that should have kept him out of the NFC Championship Game. He suited up and remained on the active roster, though, and wound up coming off the bench in that game for 27 snaps.
Jurgens then returned as a starter in Super Bowl LlX and helped stymie Chris Jones and the Chiefs’ game-wrecking defensive line, kicking off a legacy that should only grow over the course of his new multi-year contract.
