The Green Bay Packers are still working to solidify the defensive side of the ball. Meanwhile, the offense is shaping up for a breakout year—especially with quarterback Jordan Love. Love is poised for a big season, one that could silence the doubters who labeled last year a step back.
The wide receiver room looks promising, particularly with Christian Watson expected to return healthy after his injury last season. However, there’s some concern around the EDGE rusher position, where much of the depth consists of young and unproven players.
“The Packers are banking on a lot of youth at edge rusher entering 2025. Lukas Van Ness is an expected starter opposite Rashan Gary, with Kingsley Enagbare, Brenton Cox Jr., Arron Mosby and rookies Barryn Sorrell and Collin Oliver all vying for rotational roles,” Packers Wire’s Zach Kruse wrote.
The Packers know exactly where they’re thin on defense.
“Kenny Clark is very much aware of their shortcomings as one of the leaders of Green Bay’s defensive line group, and it seems there is a specific aspect of rushing the passer they will be focussing on ahead of the 2025 season,” Packers Wire’s Mark Oldacres wrote.
Green Bay is actively seeking the right fit to boost its pass rush—ideally, a veteran presence who can make an immediate impact. Fox Sports’ Carmen Vitali identified EDGE as the Packers’ biggest area of need.
“While Jaire Alexander’s release probably makes it so cornerback is top of mind, that hasn’t been the biggest complaint of Packers fans this offseason. Why can’t Green Bay get pressure up front? Xavier McKinney masked a lot of the pressure issues last season with his takeaways, but imagine if there was a real-deal pass rush to go along with his ball-hawking skills? Potential acquisition: DeMarcus Walker,” Vitali wrote.
Walker, recently released by the Bears—Green Bay’s longtime rival—could be the perfect piece. There would be no better move than using a former Bear to strengthen the Packers’ pass rush and wreak havoc on opposing offenses.
