After acquiring the forward from the Bruins at the trade deadline, the Oilers are reportedly close to finalizing an eight-year contract with Frederic worth between \$3.5 million and \$4 million annually, per Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli. However, Seravalli noted that the deal isn’t expected to be announced right away, as Edmonton has other priorities to address first.
An eight-year deal in the \$30 million range signals a significant investment in the 27-year-old Frederic, who tallied just one goal and three assists over 22 playoff games during the Oilers’ run to the Stanley Cup Final.
A physical presence on the ice, Frederic was a first-round pick by Boston in 2016 and played seven seasons there, logging 55 goals and 54 assists across 337 games.
Boston GM Don Sweeney traded Frederic and Max Jones to Edmonton at the deadline in exchange for a second-round pick, a fourth-rounder, and defensive prospect Max Wanner. Frederic, dealing with an ankle injury, appeared in just one regular-season game for the Oilers before suiting up for the full playoff stretch.
