A wave of excitement and nostalgia has swept through TD Garden and the entire Bruins fanbase as former Boston Bruins legend Johnny Bucyk makes a sensational return to the franchise — this time, behind the bench.
The 89-year-old Hall of Famer, affectionately known as “Chief” by fans and teammates alike, has officially rejoined the Boston Bruins organization as a Senior Coaching Advisor, bringing decades of wisdom, experience, and passion back to the team he helped build into an NHL powerhouse.
Bucyk, who played 21 of his 23 NHL seasons with the Bruins and ranks among the franchise’s all-time leaders in goals, games played, and points, is expected to work closely with the current coaching staff, providing mentorship to younger players and offering strategic insight throughout the 2025-26 season.
“This is home for me,” Bucyk said in an emotional press conference held earlier today. “I’m honored to be back with the Bruins organization and excited to help guide the next generation of Bruins toward greatness.”
Fans erupted with applause and emotion as Bucyk stepped onto the ice during a surprise pre-season ceremony.
