The Newcastle Knights have earned the 2025 wooden spoon after a terrible season ended with a big loss of 66-10 against the Parramatta Eels.
After the Dolphins scored 62 points against the Raiders earlier today, the Eels became the second team to get at least 60 points this round. This is the first time that’s happened in 22 years.

After the Titans defeated the Tigers on Saturday, the Knights had to win against a strong Eels team in their last regular season game to avoid getting the wooden spoon.
However, any hopes of the Knights having a great final game for their coach Adam O’Brien were quickly dashed when the Eels scored two tries within the first five minutes.
Halfback Mitchell Moses scored one of those tries with an impressive run, sprinting 90 meters and outpacing Knights fullback Fletcher Hunt.
Moses had an amazing first half, scoring three tries, which is a personal best for him in one game.
At halftime, Parramatta was ahead 34-4, looking set to score a huge number of points.
They kept the momentum going in the second half, with Josh Addo-Carr joining in with three tries of his own.
The star winger ended the season with 19 tries, which is four less than the league leader, Mark Nawaqanitawase.
Miraculous Moses
Even though he played only 12 NRL games and missed the whole State of Origin series, Moses seems like a sure pick for Kevin Walters’ Australian team.
Everything the 31-year-old did on Sunday turned out amazing, especially a 90-meter dash from dummy half that led to one of the best individual tries of the season.
Also, the kick he made for Josh Addo-Carr’s try in the 45th minute was really impressive.
Speaking of Josh Addo-Carr, if Mitch Moses was the top choice for player of the match, Addo-Carr was probably not far behind.
The experienced winger was a threat every time he had the ball and finished the game with three tries, including a clever chip and chase move that would impress players like Phil Blake and Scott Gale.

The future Knights playmaker is going to a team that is really struggling.
Newcastle was terrible for the last two months of the season and will probably start as the favorites for the wooden spoon in 2026.
Brown, along with his $13 million contract, is expected to help along with a healthy Kalyn Ponga, but the Knights will need more than that to compete for a top eight spot next year. They need to make some big changes.
In his last match with the Eels, Brown did well, getting the first try of the game and helping to create another one.
