They say that the 22-year-old might have his eye on the exit as he’s currently struggling at Como. The Italians paid €18m for him in the summer transfer window, but his first season in Serie A is proving tougher than expected.
The Croatian, who is seen as Luka Modric’s replacement in his homeland, can’t get beyond Nico Paz. While he’s capitalised on the time he’s been given, he’s yet to get into the first team properly.
He could ask for more playing time, and there’s already been enquiries for him. These have come from Leeds ‘particularly’. Whether they’d want him on loan or permanently isn’t clear. If it was the latter, Como’s asking price would be around €22-25m.
It’s up to Leeds to decide whether they want to progress. For now, it appears that they’ve simply made enquiries about the Croatian. He has been on the list at Elland Road for some time, though.
Leeds United interest goes back a while
A report all the way back in August 2024 named them as admirers. In fact, at that point they were even reportedly offering as much as €30m. At the time, this was seen as a potential pressure tactic on Fiorentina and nothing more.
Another report last month had Leeds in the picture again. At that point, though, it was made clear a bid in January may be pointless as Como weren’t interested in selling. They were firmly backing Baturina to come good.
That may still be the case and there’s certainly no hint for TMW that they want rid just yet. That’s perhaps why Leeds United are only enquiring about the midfielder and nothing more at this stage.
