Leeds United remain busy in the January market as they look to add reinforcements during the final stages of the winter transfer window.
Operating under a tight budget, the Whites have already strengthened their squad by bringing in attacking midfielder Facundo Buonanotte on loan from Brighton, after he turned down the same move last summer.
Leeds are also exploring options to sign a striker, but financial constraints are likely to limit their ability to land one of their primary targets before the window closes.
However, money does not appear to be a problem for one of Leeds’ relegation rivals, who are on the verge of signing a striker to reinforce their forward line in the ongoing window.
Leeds United look on as Nottingham Forest are set to sign a striker
It is no secret that Leeds would prefer to sign a new striker before the winter transfer window. However, money and fringe players not wanting to leave are holding them back.
However, Leeds are facing the threat of relegation rivals strengthening enough in January to undo the progress they have made in the last couple of months.
According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Forest now have a deal in place to sign striker Lorenzo Lucca from Napoli in the ongoing window.
The Premier League side have agreed to pay a loan fee under the £1m mark and have an option to buy the Italian for a deal worth up to £35m.
Lucca will soon be in England to complete the formalities of the move and sign an initial loan contract with Forest in the next few hours.
Leeds need a striker more than Forest, but the latter have moved ahead and are on their way to signing a forward before the Whites have even tabled a bid.
Leeds’ interest in Jorgen Strand Larsen is not going anywhere at the moment
Leeds United are now focused on adding a striker before the transfer window shuts, although getting a deal done is expected to be far from simple.

Joel Piroe is the obvious choice to leave Leeds, but the striker has made it clear that he does not want to move on before the next summer transfer window.
With the Dutchman sticking around and time running out, Leeds may have to face disappointment in their pursuit of Strand Larsen this month.
Daniel Farke has also indicated the need to bring in a new left-back before the end of the transfer window.
