Ethan Ampadu insists that his Leeds United team has had belief in what they are trying to achieve “from the very start” and his full faith in the Whites beating relegation ahead of the trip to Chelsea on Tuesday.
The club captain led Leeds out in a crucial 3-1 victory over Nottingham Forest at Elland Road on Friday evening, maintaining a six-point gap from the relegation zone whilst piling pressure on their beaten opponents.
Daniel Farke’s side now face difficult back-to-back away matches against Chelsea and Aston Villa, starting with a visit to Stamford Bridge on Tuesday, but Ampadu – who will be returning to his former club – has made it clear that his teammates are completely dialled in on the task in hand.
Speaking to Premier League Productions, as cited by the club’s official website, Ampadu said: “I think what we have been good at this year is not dwelling on results, whether they have been positive or negative.
“We learn from all results, all games, and try to improve the next week. So now is another chance to do that. We have another game coming up where we have to put in our best performance and go again.
Our sole focus for the rest of the season is on each game and making sure that we put in our best performances to deliver results in every single game.
“There was a lot of belief in this group right from the very start until now. We fully believe that we can achieve what we want to achieve.”
Stamford Bridge is familiar territory for Ampadu. The 25-year-old defensive midfielder spent six seasons on the books at Chelsea, but was loaned out four times to RB Leipzig, Sheffield United, Venezia and Spezia before joining Leeds in 2023.
