NRL Star Jarome Luai Issues Emotional Apology After Awkward Speech at Brian To’o’s Wedding

Penrith Panthers star Jarome Luai has issued an emotional apology after a speech he delivered at teammate Brian To’o’s wedding reportedly left some guests stunned and uncomfortable.

The colourful five-eighth, known for his confidence and outspoken personality on and off the field, admitted he regretted parts of the speech he gave during the reception celebrating To’o’s big day. According to people who attended the event, Luai attempted to inject humour and personal stories into the speech, but some of his comments were perceived as inappropriate for the formal celebration.

The wedding itself was a joyful occasion, attended by close family, friends, and several players connected to the Penrith Panthers. The ceremony was described as a heartfelt celebration of love and friendship, with To’o and his partner surrounded by teammates who have shared many memorable moments together both on and off the field.

However, during the reception speeches, Luai’s remarks reportedly crossed the line for some guests. Witnesses said that while parts of the speech were meant to be playful, a few jokes and personal anecdotes caught the room off guard, leading to an awkward reaction from sections of the audience.

Following the event, Luai took to social media to acknowledge the incident and apologise publicly. In his message, the star playmaker expressed regret for allowing the tone of his speech to overshadow what should have been a perfect celebration for his teammate.

“I want to apologise to Brian and his family,” Luai wrote. “I tried to bring some laughs, but looking back, there were things I said that I shouldn’t have. This is something I will always regret.”

He continued by praising To’o as not only a teammate but also one of his closest friends, saying he never intended to cause embarrassment or discomfort on such an important day.

“Brian means the world to me. He’s like a brother, and the last thing I ever wanted was to take attention away from his special moment,” Luai added.

Despite the awkward moment, many teammates and fans have rallied behind the Panthers star, noting that weddings can be emotional events where speeches sometimes don’t land as intended.

Both players have been key figures in the success of the Penrith Panthers in recent years, forming a close bond that has helped drive the club’s dominance in the National Rugby League.

While the incident may have caused a brief stir among guests, those close to the pair say their friendship remains strong—and that the focus of the day ultimately stayed where it belonged: celebrating the start of a new chapter in Brian To’o’s life.
