The Pittsburgh Steelers have not yet established their future at the quarterback spot. Supporters expected to gain some insight at this stage of the offseason, but unless Aaron Rodgers is signed, Pittsburgh will proceed with Mason Rudolph.
It is a disappointing truth considering the receiving talent this offense has with DK Metcalf and George Pickens both on the roster (at least for now). Nonetheless, the sole advantage for the Steelers lies in their identity emerging from the running game instead.
Last season, Pittsburgh had an average of 127.4 rushing yards per game, placing them just below the league’s top 10. Arthur Smith’s approach provides the Steelers’ offense, which still lacks a franchise play caller, with something to rely on.
They reaffirmed this dedication in the draft by choosing Iowa running back Kaleb Johnson in the third round. Currently, Johnson and experienced running back Jaylen Warren will share the responsibilities in the Steelers’ backfield.
But might they include one more addition to enhance this group’s strength even further?
Ex-Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb is still without a contract following the two significant talent acquisition phases of the offseason. Curt Popejoy from Steelers Wire recommends that the team acquire him to strengthen the backfield.
Chubb is putting in significant effort to return, and if he remains fit, he would be the most skilled running back on the team… Pittsburgh is dedicated to establishing a strong running game in 2025, and Chubb, together with Jaylen Warren and Kaleb Johnson, would form an impressive trio.
Chubb has released videos of his workouts this offseason, putting in effort to catch the attention of a possible team. So far, there hasn’t been much excitement about him signing with any team.
Should he receive his next opportunity, it might present itself as a secondary or tertiary choice. … anticipating anything beyond that could lead to controversy.
Within this group and system in Pittsburgh, there’s at least some validity to the notion of him excelling in that capacity.
If that’s not the case, the Steelers possess two reliable running backs fully equipped to contribute effectively to energize this offense.
