NRL fans are supporting Broncos player Billy Walters after he possibly hurt himself in a way that could end his season during their victory over the Raiders. Sadly, Walters played with an injury to his ACL during the game and is likely to be out for the next match against either the Bulldogs or the Panthers.

During the game, Walters didn’t seem to be in pain, but the Broncos have confirmed his injury. There’s a chance he might be back if the Broncos reach the NRL grand final. NRL Physio Brien Seeney said that the ACL issue looks like it could be a partial tear. While the Broncos figure out what to do next with Walters, Seeney mentioned that recovery time can really vary. Some players come back in just a week if the injury isn’t too bad. Fans are hoping this is true since Walters finished the game and celebrated after the final whistle. However, a partial tear might need surgery, and it could keep Walters out for as long as nine months.

Unfortunately for Walters, he hurt the same knee that he tore in 2020. This might make the Broncos extra careful with their valuable player. The Broncos have a weekend off, but it seems Walters will probably miss the upcoming preliminary final, and no official decision has been made yet.

Patrick Carrigan to miss preliminary final due to suspension
Coach Michael Maguire can’t rely on key player Patrick Carrigan in the preliminary final since the team decided not to appeal his suspension. The Broncos accepted a one-game suspension for Carrigan because of a high tackle on Canberra player Morgan Smithies, which will keep him out of this important match. Meanwhile, Reece Walsh avoided a suspension for his controversial head-butt and will be ready to play against either the Bulldogs or the Panthers.

Adam Reynolds and Ezra Mam are close to returning.
While Carrigan and Walters will not be able to play in the preliminary final, Captain Reynolds, five-eighth Mam, and outside back Selwyn Cobbo have all come back to practice and might be able to play again. All three hurt their hamstrings in round 23 against the Melbourne Storm.

Reynolds and Mam could be coming back just in time for the important match, which would mean Hunt would shift to No.9 and Walsh would stay at fullback. This was what Maguire wanted for his main players at the start. Reynolds’ kicking skill is a big plus for the team, and Maguire is likely to put the halfback right into the big game if he is fit.

But, after the win against the Raiders, Maguire was not very clear about Reynolds’ return. “I don’t know,” he said. “(Reynolds) is doing well, but we also have to think about how much players have been playing and the energy of the team. I will review the game and how we are playing. The boys are doing a great job, so it feels good to be a coach making these choices, and I will decide what to do as we go on.”
