Titans Now Have Permission to Speak With Star QB About Possible Trade
Despite having their choice of players with the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, the Tennessee Titans‘ front office is seemingly not sold on either of the class’ top quarterbacks. This could prompt the organization to look at the free agent market for a signal-caller or encourage them to seek a trade.
One player that could be available via trade would be Super Bowl-winning quarterback Matthew Stafford, who is currently a member of the Los Angeles Rams. Ian Rappoport reported on Saturday that the Rams are now allowing Stafford’s agent to communicate with other teams about his potential value in a trade.
Tennessee only has Will Levis under contract next season at the quarterback position, so making a trade for Stafford would be smart if they don’t plan on taking a quarterback early in the draft. Some reports said, however, that a team would have to give up a first-round pick for Stafford’s talents, and he is worth nowhere near the No. 1 pick.
In trading for Stafford, according to Spotrac, a team would effectively pick up a two-year contract worth $58 million, with only $4 million guaranteed. This is an excellent price point for a player of his caliber, and he has even said that he would consider restructuring his contract for a new team.
Mike Borgonzi could select a player like Travis Hunter or Abdul Carter at No. 1 and trade away their No. 34 pick to potentially get a solid quarterback for a few years in Stafford. There would need to be a succession plan in place for when Stafford retires, but before we get too ahead ourselves, the Titans should at least make the call to see what it would cost to get the quarterback to Tennessee.
