Frank Lampard and his Chelsea side have been linked with a host of defenders, in this article, Sportmata takes a look at the top five defenders linked with the Blues.
1. Kalidou Koulibaly
According to Bleacher reports via Chelsea news, Marina Granovskaia have being in constant contact with Kalidou Koulibaly’s agent over a possible switch to Stamford Bridge.
The latest reports out of Italy suggest Napoli want £63million for the Senegal international. Manchester City are named as the club in pole position to seal a deal.
2. Thiago Silva
The Blues are also linked with a move for Thiago Silva, 36, after the Brazilian was reportedly offered to the Blues. It will be expected that the blues will sign the experienced Brazilian ahead of Kalidou Koulibaly owing to the huge Transfer fee as the Blues will be aiming to avoid any Financial Fair Play complication.
As Frank And the Chelsea FC hierarchy try to solve their Defensive frailties it will remain to be seen if it’s Thiago Silva or Kalidou Koulibaly that they sign up to solve their problems.
For now Koulibaly is very likely to be heading to Manchester City to join Pep Guardiola’s side who have just acquired the services of former Blues youngster, Nathan Ake.
3. Dayot Upamecano
There have being no concrete offer from the Blues for the services of Dayot Upamecano, the French U21 star was formerly linked with the Blues but he is not joining any time soon especially having signed a new 5 years deal with RB Leipzig.
4. Declan Rice
The Blues have being constantly linked with a move for Declan Rice. The England International primarily plays a defensive midfielder for West London outfit, West Ham United.
However, Lampard sees the 20 year old as a Central Defender and not as a Midfielder, with reports suggesting the youngster played as a Central Defender while at the Blues academy.
The repelling factor is that the Blues will find it difficult coughing out a huge Transfer fee for Mason Mount’s best friend in a region of £64million.
5. John Stones
Manchester City Ball playing star, John Stones was linked with the Blues at some point having not featured for the Cityzens for majority of the season as a result of lack of form and injury concerns. Stones is looking for a way out of the Ethihad stadium. The fee for the Manchester City Defender should not be a problem as he has only a two years left on his contract according to 90min and is yet to be offered an extension.
