The link to Chelsea FC
Chelsea FC were widely perceived as one of the suitors for the Nigerian wide man during the course of the current campaign which have been suspended since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic took a hit on Europe and the rest of the world. Chelsea FC who were clearly in need of a left-footed pacy and skillful winger have being considering the possibilities of signing to him.
According to completesports.com Chelsea are in the Transfer market for a replacement of their Old guards, which includes the likes of Willian and Pedro. As we earlier reported in one of our articles, Chelsea FC just like United and Liverpool were created with links to Dortmund sensation, Jadon Sancho, but the fees demanded by the Dortmund hierarchy are considered to be very huge in the region of 120million euros. Signing Chukwueze could be a cost effective alternative to the Englishman even though the Nigerian doesn’t boast a similar stat. Liverpool FC were reported to have submitted a late bid for Chukwueze in the region of 35million Euros which was swiftly rejected by Villarreal CF high ranking members.
In an event Chukwueze joins the Stamford Bridge outfit, will that be a good move?
For some reasons that would be a wrong move; these reasons are highlighted below.
1. Chukwueze has Ziyech to contend with for a starting berth.
The young Nigerian would definitely be making the wrong move in an event he joins Chelsea FC because the Club have already secured the services of Ziyech from Ajax for 40million euros. The Moroccan is an experienced player having featured for Ajax in the UEFA Champions League, Europa League and has won back to back Eredivisie titles with Ajax. Chukwueze does not boast a similar experience and hence one should expect the youngster to sit on the bench as every Coach will pick the Ajax wideman over the Nigerian.
2. Demands for immediate impact at Stamford Bridge
Chelsea FC is a team that signs a player and expect immediate impact with little or no patience. This is evident in the numerous players they have loaned out and sold in time past who have become top players at their current clubs, worth mentioning are players like De Bruyne and Mohammed Salah who play for Manchester City and Liverpool FC respectively. Chukwueze may need time to adapt to the Premier league, even though many already perceived that the Nigerian is ready for a Premier League challenge.
3. Chukwueze is still developing
The Nigerian is still in the developing phase of his career and hence focusing on his development at the Yellow Submarines would be the ideal thing to do. One may argue that with the likes of Lampard and Jordie Morris as coaches at Chelsea FC, player development is a thing they will consider, but trust me when the club experiences a run of poor results even such Coaches will ignore developing players and focus on experience so as to save their Jobs.
The ideal Club for the Nigerian right now will be Arsenal FC who do not have natural left-wingers that play from the right side aside Nicolas Pepe, with the Ivorian disappointing on several occasions. A move to Liverpool FC will be good only if Mohammed Salah is sold. In the meantime, staying at Villarreal CF and developing further is the best thing for the youngster.
